Needy Verizon CEOs Take to the Streets(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)It’s been a rough year for the 1%. So much so that a collection was taken up Friday for the “Verizon Needy Executives Fund” in front of the L Street Verizon store. Amused passers-by were urged to drop their contributions into a top hat as four DC Jobs with Justice protesters in suits lamented that “it’s been such a hard year for us executives” and “just one of your children’s college funds could buy us another lobbyist” as live cello music accompanied the heartbreaking scene. The street theatre performance continued as the JwJ “Hang Up on Verizon Wireless” cell phone (aka JwJ’s Rosa Lozano) and JwJ DC staffer Lillian Shelton interrupted the needy CEO’s with a fact check, reminding observers that “in the last three years, Verizon got $1.9 billion in tax refunds and made $13.8 billion in profits.” – photo by Mike Wilson
