Williams Honored at Labor Heritage Awards(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Calling the Labor Heritage Foundation “a resource for labor culture in all of its manifestations,” Metro Council President Jos Williams accepted the LHF’s 2011 Union Leadership Award last Thursday night “on behalf of all the labor council leaders across the country who, like me, turn to Labor Heritage when they need a little soul food.” The festive evening featured performances by not one, but two labor choruses – the DC Labor Chorus and Baltimore’s Charm City Labor Chorus – as well as a riveting performance by actress Kaiulani Lee on an excerpt from her one-woman show, Can't Scare Me: The Story of Mother Jones, topped off by little Anna Grace Uehlein’s fearless rendition of “Solidarity Forever,” backed by proud father Joe Uehlein and both choruses. Maine AFL-CIO President and muralist Judy Taylor – whose mural of Maine workers was removed from the State Department of Labor earlier this year by the Governor of Maine – received the Labor Art & Culture Award and Jack Marco, founder of the Marco Consulting Group, received the Labor Lifetime Achievement Award at the 22nd annual LHF “Evening of Labor Honors.” - photo: Williams with LHF founder Saul Schniderman (left), Board Chair Elise Bryant and Executive Director Darryl Moch (r). photo by Chris Garlock
