CWA Begins 2-Day March to Occupy DC
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)This morning at 7a members of the
Communications Workers of America (CWA) will
set out on a two-day march from the Verizon
store in the Chesapeake Complex in Silver
Spring, MD to Occupy DC at McPherson Square.
Allies and supporters can join in anywhere
along the way, with the march staging actions
and rallies along the route that CWA says will
“spotlight Verizon Communications’
corporate greed.” The march is part of a CWA
national week of action “to focus attention
on Verizon’s attempt to cut good jobs and
workers’ benefits while posting record
profits and avoiding its fair share of federal
taxes.” Various local elected officials,
union members and supporters are expected to
join CWA marchers along the way. When they
reach McPherson Square on Thursday, the
marchers will join with AFT’s Washington
Teachers Union (WTU) Local 6 – who are
holding a Rally for Education at McPherson
Square at noon – as well as SEIU, NNU and
others – who will march with occupiers from
McPherson Square to the Key Bridge for an
action at 4p. Click
