Labor Photo: Donating to Occupy DC
Thursday, November 3, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)It was bright and sunny yesterday when AFSCME
Council 26’s Carl Goldman (pictured at
left) and Fern Finley stopped by Occupy
DC to drop off 100 AFSCME rain slickers, but
occupier Justin Rodriguez was happy to accept
them. While Occupy DC continues to get
donations, Rodriquez (pictured center) told Union
City that “they’ve slowed down” and that
as the weather gets colder there is an
increased need for tents, sleeping bags of all
sizes, and winter jackets to keep the movement
going. The rain slickers were Council 26’s
second donation, after giving 10 tarps to
occupiers over the weekend. “The problems
federal workers are facing are part of this
whole struggle,” said Goldman. When banks and
corporations don’t pay their fair share of
taxes it affects federal employees. “We’re
also the 99%,” he explained. Occupiers at McPherson
Square and Freedom
Plaza have set up websites where you can
get more information on their needs and how to
donate. -
