Millions of Taxpayer Dollars Misused by D.C. Healthcare Contractor VMT(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)A new report from the D.C. Inspector General (IG) finds that local healthcare contractor VMT misused $2.7 million in city funds and calls on District officials to recoup the money. VMT runs the D.C.-owned J.B. Johnson nursing home, where workers voted 165-0 to join 1199SEIU in February 2010 but still have no contract. 1199 is holding a rally at the Wilson Building at 4p today (see On The Line). Released late last month, the report also finds that VMT paid CEO Solanges Vivens (at right) $3.5 million from 2004 to 2008. “Given the pattern of behavior documented in the IG’s report, there are clear grounds for the city to revoke VMT’s lease at the facility and to rebid the contract,” says 1199.
