Fall Labor Season Kicks Off at Council Meeting(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Enthusiasm was high at Monday night’s Metro Council meeting, as delegates fresh off the summer break heard reports on the ongoing battle for a contract at Verizon – CWA 2336’s Mike Harris thanked everyone for their support and urged volunteers to leaflet Verizon Wireless stores; click here to sign up now (and yes, the Verizon phone costume is available!) -- organizing efforts at Walmart and by the Downtown SAMS, as well as last Friday’s win when furloughs at the FAA were averted. There are a number of events coming up; keep an eye on Union City and the Council’s online calendar for latest daily postings. In other meeting highlights, the Board and delegates unanimously approved NNU's Main Street Contract for the American People, approved President Williams’ recommendation that Dena Briscoe (APWU- NCSML) be appointed Council Secretary and Katherine Taylor (1199 SEIU) be appointed Trustee.
