Labor On The Move: New Staffers at EJC

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The DC Employment Justice Center (EJC) has been joined by several new staffers, including new Executive Director Barbra Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh has “decades of experience as a litigator and as an advocate for equality for all people,” says the EJC. As an elected member of the City Council of Buffalo (NY), she championed living wage legislation, and she also served for more than a decade with Neighborhood Legal Services in Buffalo and for several years as New York State Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Buffalo office. Ari Weisbard, the new Advocacy Manager at the EJC, comes from the Service Employees International Union, where he worked to promote responsible federal contracting practices and to make it easier for workers to gain a voice at work by joining unions. New EJC Clinic Manager Rachel Nadas previously worked as the Clinic Coordinator from September 2009 to August 2010 as an AVODAH Fellow and in the intervening year worked at the Legal Aid Society of D.C. as a Legal Assistant in Family Law. Meet all the EJC staffers – and supporters, including Champion of Justice Award recipient and Keynote Speaker Elizabeth Shuler, the AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer -- at the EJC’s annual Labor Day Breakfast on September 15. Tickets/tables still available!
