LABOR IN THE NEWS: WV UFCW 400 Members on Today Show(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)UFCW Local 400 members sporting their gold and blue union colors made an appearance on the June 17 TODAY Show (watch for them around the 3-minute mark) when they helped unload a Smithfield truck at the Covenant House of West Virginia in Charleston, WV. Featured as part of Al Roker’s Lend a Hand Roadtrip Tour, Covenant House – founded in 1981 -- is a safety net, advocate, and safe haven in times of crisis for those in need, whether they’re homeless, hungry, need help with a gas bill or just need a place to do laundry or take a shower. The drop-in center offers hope, support, and respect for those who struggle toward self-sufficiency. photo: Local 400 Representative Dale Burns helps unload hundreds of Smithfield hams donated to The Covenant House of West Virginia
