American Water Company's Greed Exposed Today
Thursday, June 9, 2011
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
As part of a national
week of action to hold the American Water
Company accountable for “steep employee cuts
and consumer rate hikes,” area union members
and community allies will rally outside the
nation’s largest for-profit water utility
this morning in Alexandria,
Virginia. “Despite doling out
lucrative pay packages to top executives,
American Water is also trying to impose abrupt
rate hikes on consumers across the nation,”
say organizers, which include the Utility
Workers Union of America, the AFL-CIO and SEIU
Local 32BJ. “From coast to coast, working
people are standing together on behalf of
consumers to demand that shared sacrifice begin
at the top and to stop the nationwide assault
on workers and consumers by American Water.”
Demonstrators will meet at the King Street
Metro station at 10:45A; click
