MD Delegates OK Fair-Share Health Care
Monday, March 28, 2005(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
After extensive lobbying in Annapolis by citizen’s groups and labor,
including e-activist campaigns mid-week by the Metro Council and UFCW 400, the
Maryland House of Delegates last week approved the Fair-Share Health Care Plan
(HB #1284), which will make companies like Wal-Mart provide health care for
their workers and stop shifting their costs onto Maryland’s hard working
taxpayers. After local lawmakers received hundreds of emails supporting
Fair-Share, the bill passed, 84-50 and now heads to the Senate.
