Storming The Govenator

Chanting, "they say privatize, we say organize," more than 150 workers, community activists, and union members led an energetic rally outside a high-dollar fundraiser for Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday, March 8 at the St Regis Washington. Amid a swirling spring snowstorm, the activists marched in opposition to “the Govenator's” plan to privatize pensions in California, turning a stable insurance policy into a risky 401K plan. Schwarzenegger was in Washington D.C. making a cameo appearance before a "business roundtable" with donors who had given the maximum contribution to his re-election fund. Despite below-freezing windchills, hundreds of activists braved the sleet and snow to demand that workers retain their pensions, protect their benefits and ensure a secure retirement. - reported by Bernie Pollack
