Talkin' Union To Kids

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

How to talk to high school students about labor was the topic of last week’s Speakers' Bureau Training Program. Several dozen union volunteers got tips on “What To Expect When You Enter the Classroom,” as well as how to assess your audience, “keep it simple” and more. Mock speaker presentations at the March 1 event helped the volunteers prepare for appearing at area high schools. “With this kind of hands-on training we can’t wait to get out there and talk to kids about workplace issues,“ said one participant. The Speakers Bureau and the training programs are being organized by the Workplace Issues and Collective Bargaining in the Classroom project of The Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO.
