G'Town Living Wage Campaign Heats Up
Monday, March 7, 2005(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Chanting “Our Georgetown is better than this!” more than fifty
Georgetown University students and supporters braved blustery winds and frigid
temperatures to demand a living wage for campus workers at a noontime rally last
Wednesday, March 3. The 3-year campaign has gathered the support of dozens of
student groups, workers, community groups and unions, including the Metro
Washington Council AFL-CIO. “You have pricked Georgetown’s conscience,”
said Council President Jos Williams, “Keep up the fight!” Added campus
worker Sylvia Garcia, “We appreciate your help: we work very hard and get paid
very little.”
