Meany Goes To Mountain
Monday, February 7, 2005(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Martha Mountain is this week’s winner
of the Quote of the Week Contest; Martha’s
name was randomly selected from those who
answered that it was AFL-CIO President George
Meany who said ”Labor never quits. We
never give up the fight – no matter how tough
the odds, no matter how long it takes.” Meany
called the labor movement the “people’s
lobby”; find out more about him here.
Honorable mentions to: Ilene Ferrell (who says
“These are definitely words to live by,
spoken by a great man, and his leadership and
vision continue with every graduate of the
George Meany Center - National Labor College"),
Robert Lucore, Scott Wilson, Jordan Barab, Joe
Horgan, Clayton Nall, Sharlene Kranz, Diana
Price, Alan Freeman, Hunter Phillips, Lisa
Kelly, Monica Silbas, Loretta Reinersmann and
Richard Prosten (who waggishly notes “Well,
Winston Churchill said part of those things,
but I'll go with another fellow who had a
certain bulldoggish aura about him").
