Workforce Management magazine’s attempt to stack the deck in an online poll about why unions are in decline backfired last week. Early in the week, “Reduced need for unions because of greater employee-management cooperation” was in the lead with 35 percent of respondents, while the correct answer, “Tough tactics by employers to keep unions out,” was in second place with 16 percent. But after the Voice@Work update got the word out, “Tough tactics” surged to 49% while “employee-management cooperation” dropped to 19%.
