Tuesday, January 18, 2005(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The Metro Council's second annual Legislative Reception drew more than 80
people last Monday, January 10, including federal, state and local elected
officials led by Maryland Senator Paul Sarbanes and Montgomery County Executive
Doug Duncan. Seven Metro Council Executive Board members as well as affiliate
leaders and activists discussed issues such as the Maryland General Assembly
veto override votes, Metro funding, the future of Social Security and project
labor agreements on publicly funded building projects with state legislators and
county council members from Montgomery and Prince George's counties. Lawmakers
and union leaders all received a special issues briefing folder with background
material on many of the key issues facing area legislators in 2005. Plans are
now underway for a similar event in DC.
