WJLA Workers Target Advertisers

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Frustrated after nearly a year of fruitless contract talks, broadcast workers at WJLA targeted four advertisers last Saturday. Among the company's demands is the significant limitation of the arbitration process. WJLA refused to extend the previous contract after it expired last January and the members of NABET-CWA Local 31 have mounted a mobilization campaign that has included aerial banners at the beach, bus ads, flyering at the Montgomery County Holiday Parade and requests for advertisers and viewers to boycott WJLA, according to Local 31 President Mark Peach. Saturday's handbilling took place at two Mattress Warehouse locations, as well as Rosenthal Honda and Alexandria Buick. photo by Moe Thomas
