Local letter-carriers collected almost 80,000 pounds of food during the May 13 “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive, during which 70.5 million pounds were collected nationally. The record-breaking amount of food donations were delivered to area food banks by National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 3825 and Branch 142 members. Thousands of area residents left canned goods alongside mailboxes on May 13 for letter-carriers to gather for local charities. “Once again the American people have come through with an amazing display of generosity,” said NALC President William H. Young.  "Hunger is a critical day-to-day issue for far too many families in our nation – including working Americans, children and the elderly – and letter carriers are proud to deliver donations from our postal customers to restock their community food banks and pantries."
