Labor's Candidates: Kurt Walter, Prince George’s Democratic Central Committee

The
Recording Secretary for Plumber’s Local 5, Kurt Walter is better known for his
tireless efforts at leading voter registration drives. Walter has literally
signed up thousands of new voters to the rolls in Prince George’s County,
where he serves as a member of the Prince George’s Democratic Central
Committee and is seeking re-election. He was born in Washington, DC and raised
in Temple Hills, Maryland. After
graduating from Potomac High School, he enlisted in the Navy where he trained as
a lithographer. After service
aboard the sub tender USS Hunley, he received an honorable discharge and
returned to Maryland to reside near Greenbelt. He enrolled in the Local 5 apprenticeship program and has
been a union plumber for two decades. Walter and his fiancé, Katie Costello,
are active members of the Democratic Party. He serves as the Second Vice Chair
of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee, while Costello is
currently running for Prince George’s County School Board from District
5. Walter has also served as
president of the Roosevelt Democratic Club and treasurer of his condominium
association. He previously worked in Annapolis as an aide to Maryland State
Delegates Joan Pitkin and Tawanna Gaines. Kurt Walter is a member of From the
