Tuesday, October 10, 2006

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Longtime friend of labor Charlie Mason died on October 1; he was 95. “Charlie and Hilda never stopped fighting for the dispossessed,” said Metro Council President Jos Williams. “Charlie wasn’t just a strong supporter of working families, but a mentor for many of today’s leaders.” Mason provided pro bono service to the D.C. Council on a wide variety of issues, and, with his wife, former DC Councilmember Hilda Mason, supported the complete spectrum of social justice, peace and environmental causes. There will be a celebration of Mason’s life on Wednesday, October 18 at 11A at All Souls Church, 1500 Harvard Street N.W., Washington, D.C.  20009. A reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either All Souls Church or the District of Columbia School of Law Foundation, 4200 Connecticut Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C. 20008 in his name.
