Stamp Out Hunger Saturday

Thursday, May 10, 2007

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Help thousands of hungry families this Saturday without even leaving your house. Food donations left near your mailbox will be picked up by your letter carrier in this Saturday’s 15th Annual Letter Carriers National Food Drive. Summer is a critical time for “millions of children whose school lunch programs are suspended until fall,” says Letter Carriers President William Young. “Letter carriers see these families every day as they deliver the mail…this food drive is one way we can help alleviate their plight.” Over 765 million pounds of food have been collected for needy families since the drive -- the largest one-day food drive in the country -- began in 1993. To participate, just leave non-perishable donations -- canned meat, fish and soup, cereals, pasta, rice, etc -- in a bag near your mailbox this Saturday, May 12 and your carrier will deliver it to your local post office.
