MC County Council Urged to Act on Job Safety

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Montgomery County Council members received hand-delivered copies of the 2007 edition of "Death on the Job: The Toll of Neglect" as part of the weeklong nationwide commemoration of Workers Memorial Day. The study, prepared annually by the AFL-CIO and released last Wednesday, chronicles the continuing decay of enforcement by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration under George Bush. In a letter to the council members, Metro Council President Jos Williams urged them to “help fill the vacuum created by George Bush's OSHA by approving the Montgomery County Worker Health and Safety Initiative,” calling it “a sensible plan that would mobilize existing county resources and the community to partner with Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) to improve health and safety enforcement.”
