Monday, April 23, 2007

Tamika Felder, a Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW)/AFSCME member and cervical cancer survivor, will join a CLUW delegation of union members and their family and friends for a walk to "Beat the Clock" for Cervical Cancer/HPV Prevention and Awareness. Felder is the organizer of the first annual walk which “will raise funds and awareness for the movement to eradicate cervical cancer, celebrates those who have survived HPV/cervical cancer, and honors those who have lost their lives to this disease,” reports CLUW’s Carolyn Jacobson. Only those who pre-register by May 12 can walk. Whether you register on-line, by phone or through mail, remember to “register to be on the CLUW team!” reminds Jacobsen. In related news, the DC Council past legislation, Thursday, requiring young girls to receive a HPV vaccine and plans to launch an educational campaign about cervical cancer and the vaccine.
