Graham, Mason Honored Saturday

Monday, April 23, 2007

Charles Graham, Business Manager of IBEW Local 26, and Fred Mason, President of the Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO, will be honored for their leadership and service to the labor movement at the 15th annual A. Philip Randolph birthday celebration. The annual event, hosted by the Greater Washington Area Chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI), honors the legacy of Randolph and helps to raise funds for the chapter’s community service work. Randolph, who organized the Sleeping Car Porters in 1925, went on to be one of the first African-Americans to sit on the Executive Council of the AFL-CIO and was instrumental in organizing the 1963 March on Washington and continued to be a champion of civil rights until his death in 1979. The A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) was founded in 1965 and was established as an organization of black trade unionists to fight for racial equality and economic justice.
