Iraqi Union Leaders to Visit DC

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Local organizers will meet tonight to plan DC events for two Iraqi union leaders who will visit in June. “Faleh Abood Umara, General Secretary of the Federation of Oil Workers, and Hashemeya Mohsen al Hussein, President of the Electrical Utility Workers Union, have finally received their visas to travel to the United States,” reports Denice Lombard, Tour Coordinator for US Labor Against the War. “At this crucial juncture in the struggle to end the occupation and war in Iraq, we have a rare opportunity to hear those missing voices right here in our community,” said Lombard.
