Community Rallies to Save PG Hospital

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

“We’re not asking for a handout,” Laurel Regional Medical Surgical/Rehab Director Colleen Triumph told UNION CITY Tuesday morning as fifty demonstrators chanting “Save our hospitals!” circled in front of the Prince George’s County Administration Building where the County Council was planning to convene a hearing beginning at 10A. “We want structure, accountability and a long-term solution. We don’t want to have to be back here picketing again in six months.” The demonstrators – many wearing hospital scrubs or white doctor’s coats – were joined by community supporters who insisted that “Closing the hospital is not the answer.” Said one long-time Prince George’s resident, “The PG hospital trauma services are the second-most-busy in the state. There’s nowhere else for us to go. Do we tell our injured children to hold their breath for an hour while we drive to Baltimore or DC? Closing is not the answer.” photos by Chris Garlock
