GW Students Wield Technology Against Unionbusting

Wednesday, April 4, 2007

With laptops fired up and online, George Washington University students recruited graduating seniors to participate in an high-tech campaign last Friday to stop unionbusting at the State Plaza hotel. Camped out at tables set up in GW’s mid-campus Quad, the students -- using laptops wired into the university’s Wi-Fi system -- encouraged passing students to send an e-fax to State Plaza officials that denounces their treatment of workers and pledges to boycott the hotel until workers receive a fair contract. The State Plaza “continues to threaten and intimidate workers fighting for affordable health care and respect on the job,” says Matthew Brokman. Over 50 students have already participated in the campaign. 2006 worker rally outside State Plaza, photo by Kimberly Kuang
