Hotel Workers Take to Streets

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Hundreds of area hotel workers and their supporters will take to the streets of Northwest DC Thursday to kick off their 2007 contract campaign. “Hotel workers deserve to be a part of the middle class,” says John Boardman, UNITE HERE Local 25 Executive Secretary-Treasurer. “They are fighting for a better life for themselves and their children.” Union contracts covering 4,500 hotel workers at 26 hotels across DC are set to expire on September 15. Key issues are job security, including protection during long building renovations and illness, as well as improvements to wages, healthcare and retirement benefits.
