PG Workers & Patients, Left in Lurch, Keep Hope Alive

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Healthcare workers and patients in Prince George’s County may soon lose the county’s only hospital. Negotiations between state and local officials to approve a funding plan to keep Prince George’s County hospital open collapsed earlier this week. “It’s a full-blown crisis, a desperate situation,” SEIU 1199 Division Political Director Quincy Gamble tells UNION CITY. “We’re working hard to get the Prince George’s County Council to re-engage with the state to try to find a way to save the hospital, perhaps a Special Session of the Assembly.” The hospital, which treats 180,000 people a year, provides care for many of the region's poor and uninsured.
