Operating Engineers 77 Rejoins Council

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Operating Engineers Local 77 has re-affiliated with the Metro Washington Council.  Local 77 represents skilled equipment operators in the construction industry. “I’m looking forward to working with the Metro Council to better the lives of working people, says Business Manager Josh VanDyke. "Local 77 has been an important part of this labor council's history," said Metro Washington Council president Jos Williams. "We're pleased to welcome them back and look forward to continuing to make history together with new activities and solidarity." Members of local 77 run the wide range of equipment in use in the construction industry today. Founded in 1901, Local 77 now has 1500 members and covers the District, eight counties in Northern Virginia and four counties in Maryland surrounding DC. The local maintains a 170-acre training center in Accokeek Maryland “where we provide our members with the latest training, certifications and licensing training,” VanDyke adds.
