Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Real (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Three actual “Rosies” were the surprise stars of the recent screening of “The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter” at the DC Labor FilmFest. 88-year-old Wilma Foster worked at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown MD during World War II, 87-year-old Lorraine Miller was at the USO in Laurel Maryland, and 89 year-old Rena Van Buren inspected cartridge shells in Cumberland MD. Ann Marie Miller (Lorraine’s daughter, standing at left), President of the Laurel MD Chapter of the American Rosie the Riveter Association, brought the women to the October 13 screening, where they participated in a lively Q&A after the film with FilmFest Director Chris Garlock. The screening was sponsored by the UnionPlus Credit Card and the Alliance for American Manufacturing. photo by Paul Williams
