Cleaning Workers to Rally Against Wage Theft Thursday
Tuesday, October 15, 2013
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)A rally is planned for Thursday to support eleven former George Washington
cleaning workers who have charged their former employer with wage theft. The
workers -- employed by GW cleaning contractor BRAVO! Building Services -- say
they worked for nearly three weeks in May cleaning GW dormitories, and then were
fired and not paid their wages. They have launched a petition with Coworker.org
to demand full payment of their wages and damages and on Thursday at 3:30p the
workers, along with students, faculty, and allies will hold a demonstration at
GW’s Kogan Plaza. The workers, backed by the DC Employment Justice Center, GWU
Progressive Student Union, and other members of the DC Wage Theft Coalition,
will march to Rice Hall where they will deliver their petition with over 1,000
signatures to GW’s Vice President of Operations Alicia Knight. The workers and
their allies will ask Knight to urge Bravo CEO Karen Martinez to pay the workers
their wages with liquidated damages. photo: GW workers at GW demo in July. Click
