Feds Plan Rallies Thursday & Friday
Wednesday, October 9, 2013(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Federal workers
will stage back-to-back anti-shutdown
rallies on Capitol Hill this Thursday and
Friday. Thursday’s will be at 11a in Upper
Senate Park (Constitution Ave. & Delaware
Ave NE) and Friday’s will be at
the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
“Over the weekend the House of
Representatives voted to give back pay to
furloughed workers after the
shutdown,” says AFSCME Council 26’s Carl
Goldman. “This is a direct result of the
pressure put on the House Republicans by
federal unions. It shows that
demonstrations and the resulting media
attention work.” But the fight isn't
over, Goldman says. “There is still no end in
sight to the shutdown,” and with
the deadline looming for raising the debt
ceiling, there’s no telling when the
furloughed federal employees will be able to
return to work and/or receive a
paycheck. photo from October 4 Capitol Hill
