Free Labor FilmFest Screening Tuesday Night

Monday, September 30, 2013

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The 2013 DC Labor FilmFest unofficially kicks off tomorrow night with a free screening at Busboys and Poets. "Black and White and Dead All Over" -- showing at 6p on Tuesday, October 1 at the 5th & K Street Busboys -- is “an in-depth look at the newspaper industry as it struggles to remain financially viable and to keep the presses rolling.” The film examines the importance journalism has on society by following two fearless investigators into the badlands of North Philadelphia. “With the economic crisis in the newsroom threatening to shutter their struggling tabloid, these courageous women bring down a dangerous and corrupt narcotics squad,” say the filmmakers. The free screening is followed by a discussion with Bill Ross (Executive Director, TNG-CWA Local 3810), Christine Bonanducci (Human Resources VP, PhillyNews) and Dan Gross (former daily news gossip columnist & past president of Newspaper Guild Local 38010), introduced by Cet Parks, Executive Director, Washington/Baltimore Newspaper Guild Local 32035.
