Walmart Workers & Allies Arrested at Hyattsville Protest(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Saying that " we cannot wait any longer" for Walmart to "do the right thing for American workers," Cindy Murray joined hundreds of her fellow Walmart workers and supporters outside the Hyattsville Capital Plaza Walmart last Thursday to call on the company to reinstate illegally fired and disciplined workers, improve jobs and end the company’s aggressive violations of their rights. Fifteen cities nationwide participated in the protest. Three workers and three community allies were arrested after they refused to leave without a meaningful response from Walmart. “Our jobs should not be at risk when we speak out,” said Tonya C., one of the arrested workers. “We must stand up together because enough is enough.” UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici called Walmart workers “the heroes of our time,” commending them "for your bravery and strength to stand up in order to live better!” Click here for a longer report and video from the action.
