In Memoriam: Robert Ades
Thursday, September 5, 2013(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Labor lost a longtime brother and ally when Robert Ades (right) died Sunday
night. The 65-year-old labor lawyer had been battling leukemia. "Rob was a
friend and a champion of workers," said Metro Council President Jos Williams.
"He was a wonderful and caring man and he will be sorely missed by us all." Ades
represented members of area unions including UFCW Local 400, the teachers,
police and others, "not in contract negotiations but whenever one of them needed
legal representation," wrote John Feinstein in The Washington Post. "Whenever
there was a shooting involving a police officer in Washington, Ades was among
the first to get a phone call and among the first on the scene. Cops called him
when they were getting divorced, when they had money problems or when they
needed someone to talk to about almost anything." Ades' funeral will be this
Sunday, September 8, 9:30a at Washington Hebrew congregation, 3935 Macomb St NW.
