Rodman 201's McVeigh Retires(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Rodmen 201 Business Manager Kevin McVeigh, whose retirement takes effect today, celebrated last Friday night at a reception at the Embassy Suites DC Convention Center. A member of Local 201 for 36 years, McVeigh started as an apprentice making $5.25 an hour, "wondering what I would do with all that money!" He worked his way up, ran the apprenticeship program and as Business Agent, steered the local through the recent recession when work was down in all the trades. An active supporter of Metro Council and Community Services Agency activities, McVeigh "always made sure the local sported a bowling team for CSA's annual tournament and bought tickets for members each year to Labor Night at the Nats," said CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. Metro Council President Jos Williams said that one measure of good leadership "is how smoothly you can turn the operation over to the next person and know that you are leaving it in good hands," noting that "George Hindle did it with you and now you are doing it with JC (Recinos)." Williams thanked McVeigh for his "support of the local labor movement over the years" and wished him "the best in your retirement." photo: (l-r): Local 201 Apprentice Director Bob Migliaccio, previous Business Manager George Hindle, Retiring Business Manager Kevin McVeigh, new Rodmen 201 Business Manager JC Recinos, MWC President Jos Williams, Iron Workers Int'l President Walter Wise; photo by Kathleen McKirchy.
