Local 99 Wins Contract at GWU
Wednesday, July 31, 2013(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Engineers and
maintenance workers
employed by ARAMARK at the GWU power plant voted overwhelmingly on July 26 to
join the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 99. The final
election results were 11-3 in favor of joining Local 99. “I’m always
encouraged
to see engineers stand up for their collective bargaining rights,” said Local
99 Business Manager Michael Murphy. “ARAMARK fought a tough campaign
against these guys, and we’re pleased they can finally negotiate as equals.
This is a huge victory for ARAMARK workers at GWU and Local 99.” The staff at
George Washington University joins thousands of stationary engineers and
maintenance workers represented by Local 99 in Maryland, Virginia and the
District of Columbia. - Jon Haines, IUOE
