Union Voice/Readers Write: Not Too Busy to Oppose Walmart(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)"As you all know, I'm too damn busy to do much writing outside of the news service and the Washington/Baltimore Newspaper Guild (WBNG) minutes," writes Mark Gruenberg, WBNG Secretary and editor of Press Associates. "But when it comes to opposing Wal-Mart, I make an exception.  Attached are letters I just shot off to the mayor and half the city council (including the three who are running, or thinking of running, for mayor next year) regarding the Large Retailer Accountability Act. And when Marion Barry voted FOR the bill despite 30.8% unemployment in his ward -- a reason he, if anyone, legitimately had to heed Wal-Mart's siren song of "jobs" -- I figured he deserves praise."
