Stadium Workers to "Button Up" at Labor Night at the Nats

Friday, July 19, 2013

Stadium Workers to (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Stadium food workers reached a tentative agreement yesterday with Levy, contract employers at Nationals Stadium, and plan to celebrate tonight. Unite Here 23 members are asking supporters to help them pass out thousands of union buttons to fans attending tonight’s Labor Night at the Nats game to ring in the new contract. “I want a better future for my grandchildren than what I have,” says Pearl Bailey, a 52 year old grandmother of two – and member of Local 23 who works as a grill cook at the Nationals Stadium for Levy Restaurants.  “I love my grandchildren dearly. I support them right now, and it’s hard with my wages.  I want them to be able to go to college, be able to afford housing without a really bad struggle.” Contact Local 23’s Amelia Kalant at akalant@unitehere.org or 202-642-0401 for more on tonight’s button pass-out. - photo courtesy Unite Here 23
