Tomorrow is Mandela Day

Wednesday, July 17, 2013

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday is being celebrated across the globe today. With the world closely watching for news on the health of the former South African president and legendary anti-apartheid activist, this year’s Mandela Day ceremonies take on special significance. In DC, the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU), TransAfrica, and the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa will celebrate with a program including Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool, members of the original anti-apartheid and Free South Africa Movement, special guests and performances, followed by a birthday cake reception. "Mandela Day is a time to demonstrate our commitment to service for a better world" say event organizers. “All over the world people will perform 67 minutes of service to honor Mandela’s 67 years of service."
