New Contracts Mean Good News for AFSCME Council 26 Locals

Friday, July 12, 2013

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)In recent months, two locals affiliated with AFSCME Council 26 completed negotiations and ratified new collective bargaining agreements. Members of AFSCME Local 3976 at the Foreign Agricultural Service won increased day care subsidy levels and expanded classes protected from discrimination to include gender identity and expression. Workers at the Office of Justice Programs, AFSCME Local 2830 members, were able to increase the number of days that employees with ”portable”  work can work at home and expand classes protected against discrimination to include sexual orientation, gender identity, and status as a parent. “That’s not all,” says AFSCME Council 26 Executive Director Carl Goldman. “In the past year AFSCME Local 3097 at the Justice Management Division and Local 2846 at the Office of Operations/USDA also completed new contracts that include important new benefits.” Goldman added, “I tip my hat to the dedicated rank-and-file negotiators and hard-working union staffers who successfully won new rights and benefits for AFSCME members in these federal agencies.”
