Tuesday, July 2, 2013

Reagan Building Food Court Workers Strike(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Food court workers in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center walked out on strike on Tuesday, July 2 to protest wage theft and low wages, taking over Pennsylvania Avenue. “The federal government is by far the largest employer of poverty-wage jobs in the country, with many of its contracted workers struggling to survive on minimum wage, or even less,” said Good Jobs Nation, which is organizing the workers. “Now, to make matters worse, some of these contractors are stealing our wages.” According to Good Jobs Nation, federally-contracted workers are now owed over 1 million dollars. The strikers are asking supporters to call on General Services Administration administrator Dan Tangherlini -- 202-501-0800 – to “end wage theft on federal property” or click here to tell President Obama to use his executive powers to  require all federal contractors to pay a living wage and respect workers' rights.
