Labor Movement Supports PG Taxi Drivers(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Taxi drivers in Prince George’s County have turned to the National Taxi Workers Alliance in their fight to continue serving visitors to National Harbor. The taxi drivers are battling a plan by the Gaylord National hotel to give preference to competing drivers from French multinational company Veolia. “But the competition may be less than fair,” reports Pete Tucker in The Fight Back, “since Veolia’s vehicles park directly outside Gaylord while taxis must pay $60 a month to wait across the street on the third floor of a parking garage, out of sight of hotel guests.” Last Thursday, taxi drivers, working with leaders from the newly-formed National Taxi Workers Alliance and the AFL-CIO, hand-delivered a letter to the Gaylord demanding a visible taxi stand at the hotel.
