Tuesday, June 4, 2013(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
"Excellence
is not an abstract
idea but a way of life for us,” said IBEW 26
Inside Wireman program graduate
Jason Wright last Saturday. “Our consistently
striving for excellence sets us
apart as union electricians." Wright -- who had
a 97.17% academic score
and only missed one day in 5 years -- was the
valedictorian at the Washington
DC Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training
Committee’s 67th Annual
Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, where 161
apprentices from the inside wireman
and telecommunications programs graduated to
Journeyworker status, while 10
Residential Wireman were upgraded to Inside
Journeyman. Sixteen veterans were
among the graduates. "We are really proud of
our graduates,” said Apprenticeship
Training Director David McCord, “and so are
our signatory contractors who
partner with IBEW 26 in running this great
apprenticeship school. We've had
over 4,000 applications to this program this
year and that is a testament to
how we prepare young people for these great
careers." - report/photo
