Friday, May 24, 2013

Local Walmart Workers Head to Shareholder Meeting(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Walmart workers from across the country and the globe will converge on Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, AK for the company's annual shareholders meeting in the first week of June. The workers – members of the Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart) – “are fighting for change from within the company,” says Respect DC organizer Mike Wilson. “And they have been standing in solidarity with us as we fight to hold Walmart accountable as they enter DC, too.” Workers from Walmart stores throughout Maryland will be traveling to the shareholder meeting, but not before a festive send-off from local activists; click here to RSVP. Activists will also be donating care packages - travel size toiletry items, snacks, notes of encouragement, or anything else – to support OUR Walmart members in their travels. For more information, contact Wilson at organizer@respectdc.org. - photo: Walmart strike picket line in Maryland (11/19/2013); photo by Julia Kann
