Open Discussions to Lead up to AFL-CIO Convention(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Leading up to the AFL-CIO convention in September 2013, the AFL-CIO is hosting open conversations about the future of working people and of unions. These conversations will take place at union halls, community centers, conferences and conventions, and online. "At a time when wages for working people are stagnant, political leaders are attacking workers’ collective bargaining rights, income equality is increasing and good jobs are scarce," writes AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt, "we need broad and diverse voices to help shape the future of working people." Today at 1p Dr. Steven Pitts, Labor Policy Specialist at the UC Berkeley Labor Center, will facilitate one of these conversations, focused on black workers in the labor movement.
