Solidarity Center Report: Bangladesh Factory Fire Survivor Describes Deadly Workplace
Friday, April 26, 2013
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)With the death toll still rising from the building collapse in Bangladesh
earlier this week, Workers Memorial Day, April 28, is more timely than ever this
year. Sumi Abedin, a 19-year-old Bangladesh garment worker, was among the
survivors of another horrific workplace tragedy, the disastrous Tazreen Fashion
factory fire that killed 112 workers in November. Sumi describes the deadly
working conditions at Tazreen—conditions similar to those many Bangladesh
garment workers face every day. Read Sumi’s story and hear from other
survivors via video at the Solidarity
Center.
