"Gonna Take Us All" is 2013 Great Labor Arts Exchange Theme

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Elise Bryant says she never thought she would enjoy what she expected to be a bunch of guys with guitars singing labor songs all day. “The Great Labor Arts Exchange and Conference on Creative Organizing is so much more than that,” Bryant, Acting Executive Director of the Labor Heritage Foundation says. “This is about union and non-union activists coming together to share successful strategies, and to learn how to create more effective campaigns using music, posters, art, spoken word and other forms of labor culture.” Scheduled for June 28-30 at the Maritime Institute, the 35th annual event’s theme is “Gonna Take Us All,” reminding activists “that it is going to take all of us, working together, to build strong unions and a progressive movement; to promote and ensure the dignity of work and workers for the good of all of our communities.” Click here for details and to register online. Early bird discounts on registration fees are still available through the end of next month. Scholarships are available, including the John Handcox Scholarship and (deadline May 10) the Julius Margolin Youth Scholarship (deadline May 1) for applicants under the age of thirty.
