Tomorrow's Special Election Offers "Significant Step" for District Residents

Monday, April 22, 2013

Tomorrow's Special Election Offers (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Tomorrow’s Special Election in DC offers “a significant step for the District,” writes DC Vote. That’s because Question 8, DC Budget Autonomy, is on the ballot. “Budget Autonomy is a critical step towards gaining Statehood for DC” writes DC Vote. “[It] would move DC residents one step closer toward full citizenship.” “Special Elections have notoriously low turn-out” adds Metro Council Assistant Political Coordinator Alya Solomon, “so every vote really counts!” The Metro Council has made no endorsement for the At-Large Councilmember race, but strongly endorses DC Vote's position in favor of Question 8: Budget Autonomy. Jews United for Justice is using Facebook to get out the vote, calling on DC residents to change their Facebook profile picture to remind their Facebook friends to vote. "The At-Large Councilmember we elect will wield serious power on all the issues we care about," writes JUFJ, "so we're doing everything possible to make sure DC gets out and votes!" Click here to find your local polling place; in-person registration is permitted on polling day at your local polling location. Folks interested in helping get out the vote for DC budget autonomy can email Eugene Kinlow at ekinlow@dcvote.org.
